Prakash Snehi Leads Nepali Congress Dalit Co-General Secretary Race

Prakash Snehi Rasaili held a commanding lead in the election for the Dalit cluster co-general secretary post at the Nepali Congress 15th General Convention in Kathmandu, with 1,056 votes counted in his favour after 1,600 ballots had been tallied. Man Bahadur Nepali had 259 votes and Narendra Paswan had 191, while counting remained underway and the result had not been declared final.

Snehi’s lead widens as counting progresses

The tally reported after 1,600 votes had been counted placed Snehi 797 votes ahead of Nepali, his nearest rival among the three candidates named in the results. Paswan stood third with 191 votes. The figures show a substantial lead for Snehi at this stage, but the ongoing count means they represent an interim position rather than a final outcome.

An earlier update, when the first 200 votes had been counted, also showed Snehi in front. He then had 143 votes, compared with 43 for Nepali and 21 for Paswan. The subsequent tally reported a much wider gap between Snehi and the other candidates as counting advanced from that initial stage.

The election is for the co-general secretary position allocated to the Dalit cluster within the Nepali Congress. The available figures identify Snehi, Nepali and Paswan as the candidates in the reported contest and give their vote totals at two points during the count. No final result was available in the update.

Result remains pending

Although Snehi’s lead was pronounced in the tally of 1,600 counted votes, the count had not concluded. The figures therefore do not establish who ultimately won the post. Further counting could change the totals, and the final standing of the candidates would depend on the completed count and the official result.

The two updates provide a snapshot of how the contest stood as ballots were tallied: Snehi led from the first reported count and remained ahead in the later update. At 200 votes counted, the difference between Snehi and Nepali was 100 votes. At 1,600 counted, that gap had reached 797. The reported totals place Paswan behind both candidates at each stage.

The Nepali Congress was holding its 15th General Convention in Kathmandu, where the co-general secretary election formed part of the convention’s internal selection process. The vote totals reported so far point to Snehi as the clear front-runner in the Dalit cluster race, but with counting still ongoing, the final result remained to be determined.
