Electricity Supply Restored in Mustang and Annapurna After Flood Damage Repairs

Electricity supply has been restored in Annapurna Rural Municipality of Myagdi and in Mustang after repairs to transmission and distribution lines damaged by floods and landslides following rainfall from Ashoj 8 to 11. The Kali Gandaki River flood toppled four towers of the 220 kV Dana–Khurkot transmission line in Annapurna, while the 33 kV line serving Mustang was repaired and power resumed through alternative arrangements.

Flood damage to transmission infrastructure

The damage occurred after rainfall from Ashoj 8 to 11 caused flooding and landslides in the area. The Kali Gandaki River flood brought down four towers of the 220 kV Dana–Khurkot transmission line at Pokharebagar, Dhirchyang and Bhirkate in Dobha, within Annapurna Rural Municipality of Myagdi.

The affected structures were part of a high-voltage transmission line. Their collapse damaged a key route for carrying electricity through the area and disrupted supply in Annapurna and Mustang. The damage also involved distribution infrastructure serving local communities, requiring repairs and a different arrangement to restore service in Mustang.

Supply resumes in Mustang

The 33 kV transmission line running from Milanchowk through Dana to Kowang in Mustang was repaired. Electricity supply then resumed in Mustang through alternative arrangements, according to Hemraj Chapagain, chief of the Nepal Electricity Authority’s Tatopani Distribution Centre.

Chapagain’s account confirms that restoring power to Mustang involved work on the line connecting Milanchowk, Dana and Kowang, as well as an alternative means of supplying electricity while the wider damage was being addressed. The available information does not specify the exact date the supply resumed or provide further details about the alternative arrangements.

Restoration after rain and landslides

The restoration brings electricity back to communities affected by the damage in Annapurna Rural Municipality and Mustang. The incident involved both the four collapsed towers on the 220 kV Dana–Khurkot line and repairs to the 33 kV line serving the route to Kowang. The reported return of supply followed repairs to the damaged transmission and distribution lines.

The disruption highlights the impact that flooding and landslides can have on electricity infrastructure in the region. In this case, flooding along the Kali Gandaki River toppled transmission towers at several locations in Annapurna, while repairs to the line through Dana enabled power to resume in Mustang using alternative arrangements. No further information was provided about the condition of the damaged towers or the timeline for any additional work.
