Devotees Throng Shakti Peeths and Devi Temples on Second Day of Navaratri

Devotees gathered from early morning at Shakti Peeths and Devi temples across Nepal on the second day of Navaratri under Bada Dashain, with large numbers of worshippers visiting Maitidevi Temple in Kathmandu for darshan and puja. The day is dedicated to Brahmacharini Devi, the second of the nine Durgas, who is worshipped at Dashain ghar and in puja rooms during the nine-day festival.

Worshippers gather at temples across the country

The morning saw devotees make their way to religious sites dedicated to the Goddess. Shakti Peeths and Devi temples across the country drew worshippers seeking darshan and offering puja as the festival continued. In Kathmandu, crowds gathered at Maitidevi Temple, where people had been arriving since early morning.

The gatherings marked the second day of Navaratri, a nine-day period observed as part of Bada Dashain. Devotees’ visits to temples formed a visible part of the day’s observance, while worship at home also continued at Dashain ghar and in puja rooms. The reported crowds at Maitidevi reflected the participation of worshippers in both public temple visits and household religious practice.

Second day dedicated to Brahmacharini Devi

The second day of the festival is dedicated to Brahmacharini Devi, the second of the nine Durgas. Devotees worship the goddess at Dashain ghar and in puja rooms, continuing the daily observances associated with Navaratri. The day’s focus on Brahmacharini Devi distinguishes it within the nine-day festival, with worshippers turning to the goddess in their homes as well as visiting temples.

Navaratri proceeds day by day, with each day associated with one of the nine Durgas. On this occasion, worshippers observed the second day through puja and darshan at temples and through worship in their own puja spaces. The observances took place alongside the wider Bada Dashain celebrations, bringing devotees to religious sites from early in the morning.

Maitidevi Temple draws morning crowds

In the capital, Maitidevi Temple was among the sites where devotees gathered for worship. The crowd came for darshan and puja, with worshippers arriving from early morning. The temple was part of the broader pattern of activity reported at Shakti Peeths and Devi temples around the country on the second day.

The day’s observance connected temple-going with household worship: devotees visited Devi temples while Brahmacharini Devi was also worshipped at Dashain ghar and in puja rooms. As Navaratri continued, the second day brought worshippers together at religious sites and in homes across Nepal, each marking the festival through the day’s dedicated puja.
