Budhi Gandaki Flood Prompts Safety Alerts Along Trishuli and Narayani Rivers

Local authorities in Chitwan issued safety alerts along the banks of the Trishuli and Narayani rivers after flooding in the Budhi Gandaki, urging people near the rivers to remain cautious. The warnings were delivered through loudspeaker announcements and were directed at riverside residents, people trading or fishing, swimmers and those attending cremations. People conducting cremations at Devghat were specifically asked to move to higher ground, while vendors along the Narayani banks were also warned.

Loudspeaker warnings for riverside areas

The alerts were issued in response to flooding in the Budhi Gandaki river. In Chitwan, authorities used public announcements to reach people in areas along the Trishuli and Narayani, advising them to exercise caution. The warning covered several groups whose activities take them close to the riverbanks, including residents, traders, fishers and swimmers.

Rameshwar Poudel, chief of the District Police Office, said the public had been urged to stay alert. The announcement was not limited to people living beside the rivers: it also addressed those visiting the banks for work or other activities. Authorities included people involved in cremations, as well as those trading, fishing and swimming, in the groups asked to take precautions.

The alerts were intended to make people in exposed riverbank areas aware of the flood-related risk. The information provided by authorities focused on caution and movement to safer ground where specifically advised. No further details about the scale of flooding, damage or river levels were included in the warning described by officials.

Devghat and Narayani vendors included in alert

At Devghat, people performing cremations were asked to leave the riverside area and move to higher ground. The instruction was specifically directed at people carrying out cremations, whose activities can keep them near the riverbank. Authorities also warned vendors operating along the Narayani banks, asking them to be cautious in the wake of the flooding.

The inclusion of both Devghat and vendors along the Narayani reflects the range of people addressed by the public warnings. Some were at the river for essential activities, while others were trading or using the water. The message to all groups was to remain alert and take care near the rivers.

Residents and river users urged to take care

The announcement covered people living in riverside areas as well as those who visit the banks. Residents were among those urged to remain cautious, alongside people fishing and swimming. Traders and vendors were also included, as were people attending cremations. The public alert therefore addressed a broad mix of river users rather than a single location or activity.

Authorities issued the warnings after flooding in the Budhi Gandaki and directed them at communities along the Trishuli and Narayani in Chitwan. For people at Devghat, the advice was to move to higher ground; for vendors and other river users, the instruction was to remain cautious. The announcements asked people to pay attention to the potential danger near the riverbanks and follow the safety advice communicated by local authorities.

The alert highlights the need for people who live, work or carry out activities near the rivers to stay attentive when flooding occurs. Officials did not provide additional details on how long the warnings would remain in place. Their immediate message was clear: riverside residents, traders, fishers, swimmers and people conducting cremations should take precautions, with those at Devghat moving to higher ground.
