Vishwaprakash Sharma Says Constitution Amendment Must Not Be Reduced to Parliamentary Arithmetic

Nepali Congress Vice President Vishwaprakash Sharma has said constitutional amendment should not be reduced to parliamentary arithmetic or the preferences of the ruling and opposition sides. He called for the issue to be treated as a matter of national unity and shared ownership.

Speaking at the opening session of the Nepali Congress’s 15th general convention at Khulamanch in Kathmandu on October 4, 2026, Sharma urged political parties to work together on urgent national issues.

Sharma calls for a shared approach to constitutional amendment

Sharma said constitutional amendment should be guided by common resolve rather than the balance of numbers in Parliament or the interests of particular political sides. He stressed the importance of cooperation among parties and a sense of collective ownership of the process.

He also said the government should be supported in evaluating the constitution ten years after its promulgation, as the constitution itself envisions.
