Up to 1 Million People Expected to Leave Kathmandu Valley for Dashain

Between 600,000 and 1 million people are expected to leave Kathmandu Valley for Dashain this year, according to a study. The report estimates that around 65,000 vehicles will be needed to manage the movement of travellers.

Stakeholders say they are prepared to facilitate the seasonal travel. The expected departure is likely to place significant demand on transport services as people head out of the Valley for the festival.

Vehicle demand for Dashain travel

The study estimates that approximately 65,000 vehicles will be required to support the expected number of travellers. Last year, an average of 8,101 vehicles left the Valley each day during the Dashain period.

Preparations underway

Stakeholders involved in facilitating travel say they are ready to manage the movement of passengers. The preparations come as hundreds of thousands of people are expected to leave Kathmandu Valley for Dashain.
