Up to 1.5 million passengers are expected to leave Kathmandu Valley for their home districts during this year’s Dashain festival, according to estimates cited in reports on preparations for the holiday travel rush.
A report submitted by the House of Representatives’ Infrastructure Development Committee to Prime Minister Balen Shah projects that up to one million passengers will depart the Valley. Other estimates put the number at about 1.5 million.
Dashain travel estimates vary
The figures point to a potentially large movement of passengers out of Kathmandu Valley during the festival period. While the committee’s report estimates departures of up to one million, the higher estimate places the total at around 1.5 million.
The committee submitted its report on public transport management for Dashain to the prime minister.
