Dr Devraj Roka (Kalyani), who contested against the UML’s official candidate in Udayapur-1, has been appointed vice-chair of the Bagmati Province Policy and Planning Commission on the party’s recommendation. The appointment has prompted protests within UML in Udayapur.
Reports have also identified the appointee as Dr Kalyan Rokka. According to Nepal Press, Roka ran as a rebel candidate against UML’s official nominee in the Udayapur-1 constituency in the 2082 Falgun 21 election. Pradesh Khabar reported that he left UML before contesting as an independent candidate ahead of the House of Representatives election.

The appointment has drawn objections from within the UML’s Udayapur ranks, with the reports highlighting his past challenge to the party’s official candidate. The vice-chair appointment was made on the recommendation of UML.
