The Supreme Court of Nepal has barred Gandaki Province Chief Minister Surendra Raj Pandey from making decisions or carrying out work of long-term importance while a writ petition against him is under consideration.
A single bench of Justice Shree Kant Paudel issued the interim order on Wednesday during a preliminary hearing on a petition filed by Lil Bahadur Thapa. The order will remain in force until the court delivers a final verdict.
Vote of confidence requirement cited
The court noted that the constitutional requirement for the Chief Minister to seek a vote of confidence within 30 days had not been implemented after the CPN (UML) left the provincial government.
The petition was filed under Rule 49 of the Supreme Court Regulations, 2074. The interim order restricts long-term decisions and work while the case proceeds.
