Stakeholders at a discussion programme in Kathmandu marking International Day of the Girl Child 2026 called for greater investment in girls’ rights, including efforts to end child marriage and improve digital safety.
Participants urged the state, families and communities to take action against discrimination and violence affecting girls. They also stressed that existing laws must be implemented effectively to protect girls’ rights.
Calls for stronger local accountability
The programme called for local levels to be held accountable for protecting girls’ rights. Participants said stronger action from government bodies and communities is needed to address the challenges girls face.
