House of Representatives Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal has pledged to introduce legislation to protect the linguistic, artistic, cultural and heritage assets of the Newar community, with particular attention to Lalitpur.
Aryal made the commitment while addressing the inauguration of the Jyapu Society’s 33rd annual general meeting in Lalitpur on October 3, 2026. He said the necessary laws would be brought to protect these assets across the country.
Legislation to safeguard Newar heritage
The proposed legal measures would cover key aspects of Newar identity, including its language, arts, culture and heritage. Aryal said the protections would extend nationwide, while highlighting Lalitpur in his remarks.
