Speaker of the House of Representatives Dol Prasad (DP) Aryal has pledged to initiate the development of necessary laws to protect the language, art, culture and heritage of the Newar community in Lalitpur and across the country.
Speaking at the opening of the 33rd annual general assembly of Jyapu Samaj Yala in Lalitpur, Aryal said safeguarding cultural heritage is the responsibility of the present generation.
Newar community’s role in preserving Lalitpur heritage
Aryal highlighted the Newar community’s contribution to preserving Lalitpur’s temples, cultural heritage, traditions and indigenous culture. He said legal measures are needed to protect these cultural assets.
The commitment places the protection of Newar language and heritage among the issues Aryal said he would pursue through the lawmaking process.
