Former minister and Nepali Congress leader Sita Gurung has filed her candidacy for the party’s vice-president post under the inclusive category, choosing to compete outside the women’s quota.
Speaking at Bhrikutimandap in Kathmandu on Wednesday morning, Gurung said women should not have to rely on reserved quotas in every contest. She said they should be able to compete in open contests after using a quota once.
Gurung chooses to compete beyond the women’s quota
Gurung, who is from Tehrathum, said she had already used the women’s quota once. She has now registered her candidacy for vice-president under the inclusive cluster, rather than the women’s quota.
She said the move reflected her view that women should be able to seek party positions through broader competition after benefiting from quota representation.
