Scrub typhus has been reported in 74 districts across Nepal, with 10,210 people infected since January 2026, according to the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division.
The Ministry of Health and Food Hygiene has intensified efforts to control the disease, including surveillance, testing and treatment, as well as training for health workers and public risk communication.
Government response to scrub typhus
The ministry is coordinating monitoring efforts as part of its response to the spread of scrub typhus. Measures include:
- Intensified disease surveillance
- Expanded testing and treatment efforts
- Capacity building for health workers
- Risk communication for the public
- Coordinated monitoring to control the disease
