Nagarik Unmukti Party founder Resham Chaudhary questioned Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa over the status of Tharu identity and rights at the Nepali Congress's 15th general convention in Kathmandu on Sunday.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chaudhary asked why the Tharu community's identity and rights remain unsecured despite the establishment of the republic.
Chaudhary recalls the people's movement
Chaudhary recalled that he and Thapa both took part in the 19-day people's movement that brought the republic. He praised Thapa for marching during the struggle with a shroud tied around his head.
His remarks linked their shared participation in the movement to his question about whether the republic had secured the rights and identity of the Tharu community.
