Repair work has begun on the Beni-Jomsom-Korala road after heavy rain from Ashoj 8 to 11 caused floods, landslides and river cutting at 46 locations. The road project is being maintained from both the Jomsom and Beni sides.
Project chief Tejaswi Sharma said the section from Jomsom to Nagdhunga in Annapurna Rural Municipality-2 of Myagdi has already been repaired. Officials say the road will need at least a week to return to full operation, provided sufficient manpower and equipment are available. Reports on the damage describe damage across the route from flooding, landslides and the Kali Gandaki River cutting into the road.
Repairs underway on both sides
The 202-kilometre road is a national pride project linking the north and south. The Beni-Jomsom-Korala Road Project has started maintenance from both ends following the damage.
- Heavy rain between Ashoj 8 and 11 triggered floods and landslides.
- The Kali Gandaki River also cut into sections of the road.
- Damage was reported at 46 locations along the route.
- The Jomsom-to-Nagdhunga stretch has already been repaired.
Full operation may take at least a week
Officials said restoring the road to full operation could take at least one week if the project can arrange adequate workers and equipment. The repair plan was discussed at a meeting of the District Disaster Management Committee in Myagdi.
