Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) chairman Ravi Lamichhane addressed the opening ceremony of the Nepali Congress's 15th General Convention at Khulamanch in Kathmandu on Sunday, praising the party's contribution to Nepal's democratic movement while urging its new leadership to chart a path forward without trying to appease former president Sher Bahadur Deuba.
Lamichhane said the Nepali Congress's long political history and role in the democratic movement were its greatest strengths, adding that he would always respect that legacy. He also said he might have joined the Congress himself if it had practiced politics based on integrity.
Lamichhane's message to the new leadership
Addressing the party's gathering, Lamichhane suggested that its new leadership, including Gagan Thapa, move ahead free of what he described as Deuba's confusion. He said it would be better to let Deuba go than to try to appease him.
Lamichhane also described himself as the lone opposition figure on the convention stage, remarking that he often had a habit of being alone.
