Nepali Congress leader Prakash Sharan Mahat has accused the party leadership of weakening its values, ideology and institutional system in pursuit of personal ambition, warning that efforts are under way to remake the party in the style of the National Independent Party (RSP).
Speaking at an interaction with journalists at a hotel on Kathmandu’s Ring Road on Saturday, Mahat targeted party president Gagan Kumar Thapa and vice-president Bishwa Prakash, among others. He cautioned against abandoning the Nepali Congress’s original ideological base and institutional practices in favour of personality-centred politics.
Mahat warns against abandoning party principles
Mahat, a former general secretary associated with the party’s dissatisfied group, said the party’s model and ideas for its operation were being abandoned. He argued that the Congress should not weaken its established values and institutions while changing its political direction.
His remarks focused on what he described as an effort to adopt an RSP-style approach within the Nepali Congress, which he referred to as ‘RSP-isation.’
