Nepal Police have uncovered an alleged gold-smuggling operation in which about 21.75 kilograms of gold was brought into Nepal over 11 days. The gold was reportedly processed at a rented house in Upper Bhangal, Budhanilkantha Municipality-2, Kathmandu.
According to the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, instructions for the operation were sent from Guangzhou, China, through WeChat. The main operator was identified in reports as Hen Jia Li, also reported as Zhen Jia Li.
Operation allegedly planned for two months
Chinese nationals allegedly planned the operation for about two months before smuggling roughly 21 kilograms and 750 grams of gold into Nepal. The operation is described in reports as being directed from China, with processing taking place at the rented property in Kathmandu.
