The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has urged all stakeholders to ensure accessible, quality and non-discriminatory mental health services, saying these are guaranteed by Nepal’s Constitution and existing laws.
In a statement on World Mental Health Day, the Commission called on all three tiers of government to take action. It expressed concern that the life, freedom, equality and dignity of citizens experiencing mental health conditions are not being protected.
NHRC calls for counsellors at every local level
The Commission also asked the government to place psychosocial counsellors in every local level, emphasizing the need to make mental health support more accessible to communities across the country.
The NHRC called for coordinated action to ensure that people can access quality services without discrimination and have their rights protected.
