The Nepali Congress is set to open its 15th General Convention at Tundikhel in Kathmandu. The opening session is scheduled for Ashoj 18 at 2:00 pm.
The open ground carries historical significance for the party and Nepal’s democratic movement. It is where party founder and Nepal’s first popularly elected prime minister, BP Koirala, delivered his first public address after returning from exile.
Tundikhel was also a key site during the successful 2046 BS People’s Movement. Nepali Congress founding leader Ganeshman Singh led the movement, which ended autocratic rule.
A historic venue for the convention
Holding the convention at Tundikhel connects the party’s gathering with milestones in its history and Nepal’s political struggle. The ground has hosted both a landmark address by BP Koirala and a movement led by Ganeshman Singh.
