Binita Khadka, a candidate for central member in the Nepali Congress’ 15th general convention, has been arrested in Kathmandu over allegations of defrauding people of more than Rs 25 million by promising to send them to Israel as caregivers through the government-to-government (G2G) process.
The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) made the arrest, according to CIB chief AIG Uma Chaturvedi. Four other people had already been arrested in connection with the case.
Arrest linked to alleged Israel caregiver job fraud
Khadka is accused of taking money from people while promising to arrange caregiver placements in Israel through the G2G process. The allegation is that the amount involved exceeds Rs 25 million.
The arrest is part of an investigation into the alleged fraud. Four people had been taken into custody earlier in the same case.
Khadka was contesting the Nepali Congress convention
Khadka, who is from Ramechhap, was contesting for central member in the open women’s category at the party’s ongoing 15th general convention.
Voting in the convention has concluded, but the results are still pending.
