Domestic airlines in Nepal have agreed to sell tickets at or below approved fare rates following complaints that airfares had risen ahead of the upcoming festivals.
The agreement followed a directive from Prime Minister Balendra Shah and efforts by Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Khadka Raj Paudel, also known as Ganesh. The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) held discussions with government officials and domestic airline representatives in Kathmandu on Thursday.
Airlines to follow approved fare rates
Under the agreement, airlines will sell domestic tickets at or below the fares approved for their routes. The discussions came after passengers raised concerns about higher airfares ahead of the festival period.
CAAN brought airline representatives and officials together to address the complaints and discuss ticket pricing. The agreement is intended to ensure tickets are sold within the approved fare limits.
