Nepal’s Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs plans to amend laws through a fast-track process to address legal complications in registering the deaths of people who go missing in climate-induced disasters.
Joint Secretary Subhash Kumar Bhattarai shared the plan during a meeting of the Parliamentary Special Committee on the Impact of Climate Change in Kathmandu on October 6. Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Sovita Gautam said preparations for the amendments are underway.
Legal changes for death registration
The proposed amendments aim to resolve difficulties in registering the deaths of people missing in disasters linked to climate change. The ministry has indicated that it will use a fast-track process for the legal changes.
