Nepal Receives Rs 436 Billion in Remittances in First Two Months

Nepal received Rs 436 billion in remittances during the first two months of fiscal year 2083/84, with inflows rising 23.9 percent compared with the same period a year earlier, according to Nepal Rastra Bank’s Current Macroeconomic and Financial Situation report. Bhadra alone brought in Rs 221.31 billion, about Rs 6 billion more than the Rs 215 billion recorded in Shrawan.

Two-month inflows rise year on year

The central bank’s report puts the combined remittance total for the opening two months of the fiscal year at Rs 436 billion. The 23.9 percent increase is measured against the corresponding two-month period in the previous fiscal year. The figures therefore indicate both the scale of inflows recorded in the current period and their change from the same point a year earlier.

The report’s total covers Shrawan and Bhadra, the first two months of Nepal’s fiscal calendar. It is not a figure for the entire fiscal year. The reported amount is presented as a rounded total, while the monthly figure for Bhadra is given to two decimal places. The two-month figure and the individual monthly amounts should be read with that difference in precision in mind.

Remittances are money transferred to Nepal, and the figures in the report measure the inflows recorded over the specified period. The year-on-year comparison offers a like-for-like view of the first two months, rather than comparing the opening months with a different stretch of the calendar. Nepal Rastra Bank is the source of the figures cited in its macroeconomic and financial situation report.

Bhadra records the higher monthly amount

Bhadra’s remittance inflow reached Rs 221.31 billion, exceeding the Rs 215 billion received in Shrawan by about Rs 6 billion. The monthly amounts show that Bhadra contributed the larger share of the two-month total. Together, the reported figures describe a period in which inflows rose from the first month to the second.

The difference between the two months is a comparison of their reported totals. It does not, by itself, establish why the amount was higher in Bhadra. The report figures provided do not identify a specific reason for the month-to-month change, so the increase is best described as a rise in recorded inflows rather than attributed to a particular cause.

What the figures show

Taken together, the headline total and the annual comparison provide two measures of remittance performance at the start of fiscal year 2083/84. The Rs 436 billion figure captures the combined inflow over Shrawan and Bhadra, while the 23.9 percent rate shows how that total compares with the same two months a year earlier. Bhadra’s Rs 221.31 billion figure gives a more detailed view of the second month within that period.

The report does not make the two-month total a forecast for the rest of the fiscal year. It records inflows for the period covered and supplies a comparison with the equivalent period last year. For now, the key findings are that Nepal received Rs 436 billion in remittances in the first two months, the amount was up 23.9 percent year on year, and Bhadra’s monthly total was around Rs 6 billion above Shrawan’s.
