Nepal has opened its national electricity transmission line for use by the private sector, a move aimed at encouraging private-sector participation in electricity trade under an open market policy.
The Electricity Regulatory Commission published the wheeling charge on Thursday, setting it at Rs 413,000 per megawatt. The decision was announced in the presence of Energy Minister Biraj Bhakta Shrestha, according to Commission Chairperson Ram Prasad Dhital.
What the decision means
The opening of the national transmission line allows the private sector to use the network for electricity trade. The wheeling charge is the rate set for that use, at Rs 413,000 per megawatt.
The move is intended to involve private companies in electricity trading as Nepal pursues an open market policy.
