Nepal Estimates Rs 227 Billion in Disaster Damage to Infrastructure, Seeks Rs 63 Billion for Reconstruction

Recent floods, landslides and climate-related disasters have caused preliminary damage of Rs 227 billion to Nepal’s infrastructure, Infrastructure Development Ministry Secretary Padma Kumar Mainali said.

Mainali said Rs 63 billion is needed immediately for reconstruction. He shared the estimates at a meeting of the Parliamentary Special Committee on Climate Change Impacts in the Himalayas, Climate Justice and Bhote Koshi-Trishuli Disasters in Kathmandu on October 6, 2026.

Immediate reconstruction need

The Rs 63 billion request is for urgent reconstruction following the disasters. The figures presented at the meeting put the preliminary damage to the country’s infrastructure at Rs 227 billion.

The committee meeting was held at Singha Durbar in Kathmandu.
