Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle returned to Kathmandu on September 30 after attending the 11th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) in Doha, Qatar. Nepal was elected as a vice-chair of the AIIB during the meeting, held on September 28 and 29.
Wagle met AIIB President Zou Jiayi and urged the bank to increase its investment in Nepal, support post-disaster reconstruction and expand the country’s access to concessional financing.
Nepal’s role at the AIIB meeting
The annual meeting was held under the theme “Tomorrow’s Infrastructure: Impact and Innovation.” Nepal’s election as a vice-chair took place as member countries gathered to discuss infrastructure and development priorities.
Wagle left for Doha on September 26, leading a Nepali delegation that included Amrit Lamsal, chief of the Economic Relations Division at the Ministry of Finance.
