Nepal Directs Employers to Pay Workers Mandatory Festival Allowance

The Department of Labor and Occupational Safety has reminded employers nationwide to provide workers with a festival allowance equal to one month's salary, as required by the Labor Act, 2017.

Nepal Directs Employers to Pay Workers Mandatory Festival Allowance

The Department of Labor and Occupational Safety has directed employers and establishments across Nepal to provide workers with the festival allowance required by law.

In a press release issued Thursday, Deputy Director General Bipin Rajbhandari said Section 37 of the Labor Act, 2017, requires every worker to receive a festival allowance equivalent to one month's salary. The directive applies to employers and establishments in Kathmandu and across the country.

What the Labor Act requires

Under Section 37 of the Labor Act, 2017, workers are entitled to a festival allowance equal to one month's salary. The department said employers and establishments must provide the allowance as required by law.
