A bill presented in Nepal’s federal parliament proposes banning slaughterhouses and waste dumping within three kilometres of airports, as part of efforts to reduce risks from birds and wild animals to flights.
The proposed Nepal Air Service Authority Establishment and Management Bill, 2083, would introduce environmental standards around airports. The measures are aimed at limiting hazards that can lead to bird and wildlife strikes involving aircraft.
Proposed airport safety measures
Under the bill, the prohibited activities within three kilometres of an airport would include:
- Operating slaughterhouses
- Dumping waste
The proposed restrictions are intended to address risks to aviation from birds and wild animals in areas around airports.
Proposal still requires parliamentary process
The measures are part of a bill presented in the federal parliament. The proposal seeks to establish environmental standards around airports to help control wildlife-related hazards to flights.
