Nepal Bar Association Objects to Supreme Court Constitutional Bench Formation, Warns of Protest

The Nepal Bar Association has objected to the formation of the constitutional bench at the Supreme Court, alleging that it was constituted at the personal discretion of the Chief Justice. The association has demanded that the current arrangement be stopped immediately.

In a press statement issued by Bar General Secretary and Senior Advocate Kedar Prasad Koirala, the association said the bench should be formed on the basis of seniority. If seniority cannot be applied objectively, it called for members to be selected through a lottery system.

Bar warns of protest

The association warned that it would launch a protest if neither seniority nor a lottery system is used to form the constitutional bench. It said the current arrangement should not continue.
