Nepal Army Rescues Six After Budhi Gandaki Flash Flood

The Nepali Army has rescued six people from Jagat village after a flash flood struck the Budhi Gandaki River area, deploying aerial and ground teams to support search and rescue operations and assess the affected locations. Jagat remains at risk of landslides, according to information released by the Army’s Public Relations and Information Directorate.

Army teams mobilised for rescue and assessment

The Army dispatched a Composite Quick Response Team from Kathmandu and a quick reconnaissance team to the flood-hit area. Army spokesperson Rajaram Basnet said the teams were mobilised for search and rescue operations. Their deployment brought together response personnel and a team tasked with reconnaissance, as the Army worked to assess the situation after the flash flood.

The six people were rescued from Jagat, a village identified as remaining vulnerable to landslides. The Army’s account confirms the rescue but does not provide further details about the rescued people or the circumstances in which they were found. It also does not specify whether anyone else was reported missing or injured.

The deployment included aerial and ground response capabilities. The Army’s statement described the teams’ purpose as carrying out search and rescue work, while the quick reconnaissance team was sent to assess damage. No further information was provided about the extent of damage in the affected area.

Jagat remains at risk

The continuing landslide risk in Jagat means the rescue operation is taking place amid an ongoing hazard, rather than after conditions have been fully declared safe. The Army has not provided details on the scale of that risk, the areas considered most exposed, or whether residents have been asked to leave the village. The available information confirms only that Jagat remains at risk following the flash flood.

The dispatch of a reconnaissance team is intended to help assess the damage in the affected locations. The Army has not released a detailed assessment, including information on damage to homes, roads or other infrastructure. It has also not announced how long the response teams are expected to remain in the area.

The rescue of six people and the mobilisation of additional teams mark the confirmed elements of the Army’s response so far. Further details about the flood’s effects, the safety of other residents and the findings of the reconnaissance team were not included in the information released by the Army.

The Nepali Army said its personnel were deployed for search and rescue operations as teams worked in the Budhi Gandaki area. With Jagat still considered at risk of landslides, the situation there remains a concern while the response and damage assessment continue.
