More than 50,000 Nepalis have returned home from India through the Jamunaha checkpoint in Nepalgunj, Banke, over five days ahead of Dashain, according to local police. The number of people returning has been rising daily as Dashain and Tihar approach.
The Banke district administration has set up a passenger help desk at the border point to help facilitate a safe return. Chief District Officer Dil Kumar Tamang is overseeing the arrangement.
Returnees increase ahead of Dashain
Chief Police Inspector Rajan Prasad Bhattarai of the Area Police Office, Jamunaha, said more than 50,000 people had crossed through the checkpoint to return home during the five-day period.
The daily increase comes as Nepalis living in India travel home for the festive season.

The passenger help desk was established by the Banke district administration at the Jamunaha border point to support returning travellers and facilitate their safe journey home.
