Authorities in Malaysia's Johor state have ordered all schools to close on Thursday and Friday as air pollution worsens and air quality continues to deteriorate.
The precautionary decision was made to protect students' health and safety after smoke increased in various parts of the state in recent days. It was announced in a statement issued Wednesday by Muhammad Nakeeb Muhammad Ghazali, chairman of the Johor Education and Information Committee.

The order applies to all schools in Johor for two days. Authorities cited deteriorating air quality and the need to safeguard students as the reason for the temporary closure.
