Madi Municipality in Chitwan will fully enforce the Meat Inspection Act 2055 from Mangsir 1, after setting the implementation date through discussions with stakeholders.
The municipality plans to map slaughterhouses within its area. Facilities that meet the prescribed standards will be required to register before operating under the new rules.
Mayor Tarakumari Kaji Mahato said the measure aims to ensure that clean, healthy and quality meat is sold and distributed.
Slaughterhouses face new requirements
Slaughterhouses in Chitwan have been reported to be in disarray as the new rules take effect. Under the municipality’s plan, slaughterhouses will be mapped and those meeting the required standards will need to register and operate in line with the Act.
