Kagbeni in Mustang, usually busy with thousands of pilgrims each day during Sorha Shraddha, has remained unusually quiet this year. The number of people arriving to perform ancestral rites has dropped sharply after landslides blocked a section of the Beni–Jomsom–Korala road.
Heavy rainfall from Ashoj 9 to 11 triggered landslides and road cutting, disrupting travel to Kagbeni. The road blockage has affected pilgrims coming from India and other places to offer pinda and tarpana during the observance.
Road blockage disrupts pilgrimage
The Beni–Jomsom–Korala road is a key route for reaching Kagbeni. With part of the road blocked, far fewer pilgrims have been able to make the journey for Sorha Shraddha this year.
Kagbeni normally draws thousands of visitors daily during the period, but the impact of the rainfall and landslides has left the pilgrimage site quiet.
