The Department of Labour and Occupational Safety has directed all employers and establishments to provide festival allowances to their workers, saying the payment is mandatory under the Labour Act, 2074.
In a notice issued on Thursday, the department cited Section 37 of the Act, which requires every worker to receive a festival allowance in line with their prevailing religion, culture and tradition. The department also urged workers to file complaints if their employers do not provide the allowance.
