Reducing road accidents in Kathmandu requires a shared effort from drivers, traffic police and ordinary citizens, Kathmandu Valley Police Office chief Sushil Singh Rathaur said on Saturday.
Speaking at a discussion in Kathmandu, Rathaur said a driver’s negligence can harm not only the driver but also their family and other people using the road.
Shared responsibility for safer roads
Rathaur made the remarks at an event titled “Safe Society, Strong Society: Experience Sharing on Data-Based Governance,” organised by the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office.
He said improving road safety is not solely the responsibility of traffic police. Drivers and citizens also have a role in helping reduce accidents.
Who has a role in reducing road accidents?
- Drivers must recognise that negligence can put themselves and others at risk.
- Traffic police share responsibility for road safety.
- Citizens also have a part to play in reducing accidents.
