Women observing the Jitiya festival concluded their day-long Nirhara fast on Sunday morning after bathing and completing the rituals. The fast is observed as part of the three-day festival, which includes a series of traditional practices.
Women began the observance on Friday night by eating Ogat, also known as dar. They then observed a waterless fast on Saturday before ending the fast on Sunday.
Why the Jitiya fast is observed
The festival is observed with wishes for the long life, good health and prosperity of children. The Nirhara fast is a central part of the three-day Jitiya observance.
