Yemen's Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for missile and drone attacks on sites in Saudi Arabia, including King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and an Aramco refinery in Rabigh. The strikes drew strong condemnation from Saudi Arabia and were followed by reported counterstrikes by Yemen's internationally recognised government against Houthi targets in Sanaa and Saada.
The developments mark a fresh escalation in the conflict, according to a report by Khabarhub.
Houthis claim attacks on Saudi sites
Houthi military spokesperson Brigadier General Yahya Saree said the group was responsible for the missile and drone attacks. The sites named in the claim included King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and an Aramco refinery in Rabigh.
Saudi Arabia condemns strikes
Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the attacks in a statement posted on Telegram.
Yemen government reports counterstrikes
Yemen's internationally recognised government confirmed strikes against what it described as "vital targets" of the Houthis in Sanaa and Saada. The reported strikes followed the Houthi claims and added to the renewed escalation.
