The prolonged closure of the Hilsa border crossing between Nepal and China has left Nepali residents and security personnel in Humla facing shortages of food, drinking water and health care. The crossing has been closed since the 9th of the month, and everyday supplies have become increasingly scarce in the border area.
Locals and security personnel say green vegetables have been unavailable for a long period, while supplies of fish and meat have stopped completely. The closure has also made it difficult for people to return home, as snow obstructs travel through the area.
Shortages worsen in the border area
With the crossing shut, access to daily consumer goods has become increasingly difficult. Residents and personnel stationed in the area are also facing limited access to health care and drinking water, according to reports from Khabarhub, Nagarik News and Ratopati.
Snow complicates travel home
The closure has disrupted people's ability to return home through Hilsa. Snow along the route has made the journey more difficult, adding to the challenges faced by people in the border region.
