Heavy Snowfall Strands 41 Nepalis at Humla’s Hilsa Border

Continuous rain and heavy snowfall at Hilsa, a northern border point in Humla, have stranded 41 Nepali citizens and blocked the Hilsa-Taklakot route, disrupting travel for the Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage.

The group reached Hilsa last Friday but has been unable to continue its journey. Around 2 to 2.5 feet of snow has accumulated in the area, according to Immigration Officer Bimal Paudel. Travel is expected to resume from October 4.

Who is stranded at Hilsa?

The stranded people are residents of Namkha Rural Municipality’s Wards 1, 2 and 3 who had been doing business in Taklakot, Paudel said.

Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage disrupted

The heavy snowfall has also affected the Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage. The route blockage has left the group unable to move ahead from Hilsa while conditions remain difficult.
