Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Gyanendra Shahi has thanked party chairman Rabi Lamichhane for distributing apples from Jumla to promote local produce. Shahi said the initiative would help bring wider attention to the region’s apples and its farmers.
Speaking at a central committee meeting of the party, Shahi also urged the government to stop importing apples from abroad, saying local farmers should receive fair prices for their produce.
Shahi calls for support for Jumla farmers
Shahi said the government and the Ministry of Agriculture are led by his own party and should therefore pay attention to farmers’ concerns. He called for measures that would help Jumla’s apple growers get a fair return.
He said promoting Jumla apples could raise their profile, while limiting imports would help create better conditions for local producers.
