Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Ganesh Parajuli has been sworn in as chairperson of the Parliamentary Special Committee on Climate Change Impacts in the Himalayas, Climate Justice and the Bhote Koshi-Trishuli Disaster.
Parajuli took the oath of office before Speaker Dol Prasad (DP) Aryal at Singha Durbar in Kathmandu on Wednesday. He was elected to lead the committee, which was formed on September 21.
Committee’s mandate
The 15-member committee is tasked with studying the impacts of climate change in the Himalayas and the recent Bhote Koshi-Trishuli disaster. It must submit a fact-based report to the House of Representatives within its mandated timeframe.
Parajuli pledged to prepare a practical and implementable report addressing the rehabilitation of affected citizens, sustainable reconstruction and measures to reduce future risks. He also said the report would cover legal and institutional reforms.
