Student protests in France escalated on Friday as high school students set fires outside schools and clashed with police. The education ministry said classes had been disrupted at more than 560 upper secondary schools nationwide since the movement began last week.
The demonstrations began in the Paris area and have since spread across the country. Final-year students are protesting long class hours, inadequate facilities, overheated classrooms and a shortage of teachers.
Arrests and injuries reported
Nearly 2,000 people were arrested in a single day on Thursday, while 305 police officers were injured in the unrest.
