Flood-Damaged Suspension Bridge Disrupts Travel and Schooling in Tanahun

Flooding following heavy rainfall on Ashoj 9, 10 and 11 damaged a suspension bridge connecting Karuwatar Mautighat in Ghyring Rural Municipality-4, Tanahun, with Machedi in Baudikali Rural Municipality-1, Nawalpur. The bridge is currently out of service, leaving residents unable to cross the river.

Daily movement has come to a halt for people in Karuwatar, Bataulitar and nearby areas. The disruption has also affected local students’ teaching and learning.

Bridge damage affects local access

The bridge had provided a crossing between communities in Tanahun and Nawalpur. Its damage has cut off that route for residents in the affected areas, disrupting routine travel.

Students affected by the disruption

With the crossing unavailable, students’ ability to continue their usual learning activities has also been affected. The disruption extends beyond travel, impacting education in the local community.
