Energy Minister Biraj Bhakta Shrestha has urged the electricity-sector regulator to build the trust of investors, consumers and other stakeholders, saying an energy-based economy is a national priority.
Shrestha made the remarks in Kathmandu on Thursday while receiving the Electricity Regulatory Commission’s annual report for fiscal year 2082-83. He called for investment-friendly regulation and said regulatory decisions and policymaking should be guided by the market.
A trusted and investment-friendly regulatory environment
The minister said the regulatory body should work to earn confidence across the electricity sector. He stressed that effective regulation is important as the country prioritizes building an economy based on energy.
Shrestha also emphasized the need to diversify the energy system and create conditions that encourage investment.
