Mountain goats, known as chyangra, from Dolpa in Karnali Province have begun arriving in Pokhara and are being moved towards Kathmandu ahead of the Dashain festival. Traders began bringing the animals about two weeks before the festival to meet consumer demand.
Trader Dukhiram Bohora of Gothichaur-2 in Jumla said his journey took roughly 25 days.
Chyangra travel through Mustang
According to OnlineKhabar, goats from Chharkatangsong Rural Municipality in Upper Dolpa were walked across Himalayan terrain to Mustang. Traders from Tripurasundari Municipality in Dolpa are now moving the animals onward through Mustang.
The animals are being brought to market ahead of Dashain, when traders seek to meet demand for chyangra.
