A protest demanding the resignation of India’s Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has been called at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi for 1 pm on Saturday. The gathering follows a demonstration on Friday by opposition parties and leftist student organizations.
Neha Bora, national president of the All India Students Association, called for the Saturday protest. Demonstrators have raised concerns about the Election Commission’s working style and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process for updating voter rolls.
Protests over voter-roll revision
The protests center on dissatisfaction with the Election Commission’s handling of its work and the SIR process. The planned gathering at Jantar Mantar follows Friday’s demonstration by opposition parties and student groups.
Another protest announced for October 10
Cockroach Janata Party founder Abhijeet Deepke has also announced a protest in Delhi on October 10 over the same issue.
