China's Global Development Initiative (GDI) has completed five years, with a senior United Nations official saying the initiative is increasingly focused on practical support for the needs of developing countries.
Dima Al-Khatib, Director of the UN Office for South-South Cooperation, said the GDI is helping countries share partnerships, knowledge and resources for development. Reports on the initiative were published from Kathmandu and Beijing on October 5, 2026.
Focus on practical development support
Al-Khatib said the initiative's work is increasingly directed toward practical support for developing countries. The GDI provides a platform for countries to share partnerships, knowledge and resources in support of development.
The five-year milestone comes as the initiative continues to emphasize cooperation around the needs of developing countries.
